Mike Bloomberg reportedly asked Andrew Yang to be his running mate

Mike Bloomberg’s campaign reached out to Democrat Andrew Yang seeking his endorsement and supposedly dangled an offer to run as his vice president as the bait, a new report said Thursday.

The ex-mayor’s aides contacted Yang in the hopes that the two could work together as Bloomberg seeks the Democratic nomination, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources.

Yang, an entrepreneur like the billionaire Bloomberg, dropped out of the race earlier this month, didn’t bite because he was mulling his own political future, the paper reported.

Yang didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from The Journal, and Bloomberg’s camp did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.

But a senior Bloomberg aide contradicted the report, saying that Yang wasn’t a serious contender to be Bloomberg’s running mate.

Yang tanked in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, dropped out and became a commentator for CNN.

When Bloomberg announced he was running in November, Yang was skeptical.

“It’s going to be very, very difficult for him to jump in right now and somehow replace the thousands of conversations many of the candidates have had with voters,” Yang said then.
