Tens of thousands of users have reported issues with the popular social app earlier this evening.

People who have downloaded the popular app are reporting issues on both iPhones and Android devices.

Is Tik Tok down?

According to a number of Tik Tok users and Down Detecor, a service which identifies when service providers suffer technology fail, the app has been down since approximately 6.4pm today (July 9).

Hundreds of users have reported problems with the hugely popular app ranging from an inability to show likes and views on videos and followers disappearing.

Others have complained about issue logining into the service, as well as difficulties uploading content.

How do I know if the app is offline?

Independent outage monitor Down Detector has registered a spike in 'TikTok down' reports.

Users have also reported issues on other sites, including Twitter.

According to stats, some 88 per cent of affected users are having issues with video content.

Others are finding problems uploading clips.

The Down Detector outage map says the TikTok issues are affecting users in the UK, US and large parts of Europe.

People took to social media to complain about the problems, with one simply tweeting: "TIKTOK IS GONE."

What is TikTok?

TikTok, one of the world's most downloaded phone app, first launched in the United States in 2018.

The social media app allows, which users to create and share video clips with music and camera effects, was founded by the entrepreneur Zhang Yiming.

It is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance.

The Chinese version of the app, called Douyin, was created in 2016.

When was Tik Tok last down for some customers?

Tik Tok has suffered a few technical difficulties in the past, with at least three accounts for the year 2020.

  • May 7 – Various users complained that their likes had reset to zero.
  • May 27 – Down Detector reported the app had experienced technical problems.
  • June 16 – Problems were detected on the app, including the disappearance of followers.
