Good Samaritans foil dollar van driver’s escape after he hits Brooklyn bicyclist, cops say

A dollar van driver tried to run from the scene after plowing into a bicyclist in Brooklyn on Saturday — only to be stopped by angry, but good, Samaritans, police said.

The crash happened at Flatbush Avenue and Avenue U in Marine Park at about 5:15 p.m., and left the woman bicyclist in critical condition.

The 42-year-old driver tried to leave the scene on foot, but witnesses spotted him and tackled him a block away, holding him until police arrived, cops said.

Photos show the woman’s mangled bicycle caught under the rear wheels of the van, which has Pennsylvania license plates and did not have Taxi and Limousine Commission plates.

A phone message left with Bergen County Community Transportation, the company whose name is on the side of the van, was not immediately returned Saturday.

The driver was taken to the 63rd Precinct station house, where charges were pending Saturday night, authorities said.

The bicyclist remained in Kings County Hospital in critical condition.
