The 30-year-old however could not let his mum fight the coronavirus alone so took to scaling the hospital so he could be with her from the behind the glass.

He used a drainpipe and another ledge to climb the building before positioning himself next to her as she also battled leukemia.

Moving photos show Jihad perched on the ledge – and he returned each day until she died last Thursday.

He was reportedly Rasma's youngest son and his dad had also died some 15 years ago.

His brother Abang explained that Jihad was very close to this mum and has struggled to deal with her death.

He said: "Our mother was also battling leukaemia prior to being diagnosed with Covid-19 a few weeks ago.

"When Jihad was informed about our mother's death, he was angry and in shock.

"Now he seems to have accepted the fact".

Pictures from her funeral show pallbearers in full protective gear laying her to rest.

Reportedly, a hospital official said: "He spent most of his day there, observing his mother's condition from outside the window.

"He would then come down when he was convinced that his mother was fast asleep

UN Representative Mohamad Safa shared the incredible pictured – with it being retweeted almost 77,000 times.

He said: "The son of a Palestinian woman who was infected with Covid-19 climbed up to her hospital room to sit and see his mother every night until she passed away."

It was also liked 205,000 times and received over a thousand replies as people shared in Jihad's grief for his mum.

One lamented: "Can this become any more sad when we are only able to comfort our loved ones through a window, phone or tablet?"

Another added: "This made me shed a tear. Lost my mum in 2014 and life hasn’t been the same. "
