A recruiter for an Oklahoma Christian college has been fired after being accused of grouping students by the color of their skin — as well as those with the “nappiest” hair, according to a report.
The unidentified white recruiter from Oklahoma Christian University so disgusted everyone at Harding Charter Preparatory in Oklahoma City last Monday that some teachers were left in tears, according to KFOR-TV.
“He was like, ‘Let’s play a little game,’ ” 11th-grade pupil Korey Todd told the station of the recruiter. “He said, ‘Okay everyone, now line up from darkest to lightest skin complexion.’ ”
Never once giving justification for his requests, the recruiter also told them to order themselves by kinkiest hair.
“He told us nappiest hair in the back and straighter hair in the front,” another pupil, Rio Brown, told the station. “Teachers left. They were crying because they were offended. It’s just horrible.”
The university confirmed to KFOR that the recruiter had been fired.
“OC admissions leadership did not approve the inappropriate activity in advance and has communicated closely with Harding administration since the visit,” the university said in a statement.
“Admissions staff are scheduled to visit the academy Monday to apologize to Harding students and staff on behalf of the University.”
The principal at Harding Charter Prep, Steven Stefanick, also confirmed the “inappropriate and hurtful” event that left everyone “stunned and distraught,” saying the school “does not condone any behavior and/or language that undermines our community’s values.”
“Over the years, we have had a strong relationship with the university and have never encountered events as such,” he said on Facebook.
