Anti-Trump Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney is not very popular with Republican voters or her GOP colleagues on Capitol Hill, but she still has at least one base of strong support — big-money donors.

The embattled congresswoman, who is facing multiple primary challengers next year, raised a whopping $1.88 million dollars in the third quarter of 2021, smashing her previous record from earlier this year of $1.5 million.

Cheney was tapped recently by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to serve on the select committee investigating the Capitol Riot, a move that angered House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy who called it “shocking” and “unprecedented.”

Meanwhile, polling has shown that the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney is deeply unpopular with Republican voters, only 15% of whom viewed her favorably in a May survey. She is three times more popular with Democrats according to the poll.

But none of this dismay from those on the right has stopped donors from chipping in big bucks to fill her campaign coffers, which currently boast $2.58 million in cash on hand to defend her seat.

The haul dwarves the $1.5 million raised in the same period by Rep. Elise Stefanik, who replaced Cheney as the No. 3-ranking GOP member in the House after she was stripped of that post by colleagues frustrated by her constant attacks on Donald Trump.

In February Cheney survived a vote to oust her from her position in GOP leadership, but two months later, after continuing her attacks not only on Trump but on members of Congress who supported the challenge to the results of the 2020 election, House GOP members voted her out.
