NORMAL People is one of the most highly-anticipated TV shows of the year – and tells the love story of a young Irish couple.
The romantic drama, based on a best-selling novel of the same name by Sally Rooney, will hit screens tomorrow night. But who stars in the new BBC series?
Who's in the cast of Normal People?
The plot of Normal People, which is set in the Republic of Ireland, centres around the characters of Connell Waldron and Marianne Sheridan.
Playing the former is Paul Mescal, 24, and – with a background in theatre – it will be his first TV role.
The role of the latter is undertaken by Daisy Edgar-Jones, 21, who has previously had parts in Cold Feet, Silent Witness, Gentleman Jack and War Of The Worlds.
There is also Sarah Greene, who plays Connell's plain-speaking mother Lorraine – who starred in Dublin Murders.
Marianne's cruel brother, Alan, is portrayed by Frank Blake who has previously appeared in Game Of Thrones.
Aislin McGuckin – whose credits include Outlander, The Miniaturist and David Copperfield – plays her long-suffering mum Denise.
The role of Rachel, who has a crush on Connell at school and dislikes Marianne for the attentions he pays her, is taken on by Leah McNamara who has appeared in Dublin Murders.
Marianne's first university boyfriend Gareth is portrayed by former Skins star Sebastian de Souza.
Finally, Aoife Hinds plays Connell's university girlfriend Helen, who has also appeared in Derry Girls.
The mainly Irish cast filmed at a string of locations, including the capital of Dublin, and the west coast town of Tubbercurry in County Sligo.
What is Normal People about?
The BBC and Hulu have joined forces to bring to life the coming-of-age novel by Irish author Sally Rooney, who has also penned Conversations With Friends.
It begins in a small Irish town where two teenagers and classmates – from differing social backgrounds – start to fall in love.
Marianne, a loner at school, and the son of her family's cleaner Connell, who is very popular, begin a secret sexual relationship which is broken off by the end of term.
They next meet at university at the prestigious Trinity College Dublin where Marianne has flourished and Connell is struggling to fit in.
The story continues to follow the couple over the next few years as they mature and try to navigate their feelings for one another.
How can I watch Normal People?
The first instalment of the series will air on Monday, April 27, 2020 at 9pm on BBC One.
There will be 12 episodes in total, and all will become available on BBC iPlayer.
