The Gilded Age cast: Who stars in the HBO Max series?

HISTORICAL drama series, The Gilded Age, is a time warp into the development of the United States during the 1880s.

Brought to viewers by Julian Fellowes, the creator behind Downton Abbey, The Gilded Age boasts a high-profile cast that audiences are curious to know more about.

Who is in the cast of The Gilded Age?

Louisa Jacobson – Marian Brook

Marian Brook, (portrayed by Louisa Jacobson) moves from Pennsylvania to New York to stay with her estranged aunts after the death of her father.

Marian Brook's aunts, Agnes van Rhijin and Ada Brook come from old money and introduce her to an upper-class life.

Jacobson, whose full name is Louisa Jacobson Gummer, is the daughter of renowned actress Meryl Streep.

The Gilded Age will be her first known role, having starred in only one other role as Trish Sparks in the TV movie, Gone Hollywood.

Cynthia Nixon – Ada Brook

Stepping into the role of Ada Brooks, Cynthia Nixon plays one of Marian's wealthy aunts who welcomes her into her Manhattan home.

Nixon is widely recognized for her role as Miranda Hobbs in Sex and The City, the Sex and The City movies, as well as the show's reprisal, And Just Like That…

She also starred alongside Sarah Paulson and Sharon Stone in the Ryan Murphy Netflix series, Ratched.

She won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2004 for her role in Sex and The City.

Christine Baranski – Agnes van Rhijin

In The Gilded Age, Christine Baranski plays Marian's other aunt, Agnes van Rhijin who, alongside Ada Brook, welcomes her niece into their home.

She has also starred in a number of films including Mamma Mia, its prequel Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, and The Big Bang Theory as Leonard's mom, Dr. Beverly Hofstadter.

Baranski won a Primetime Emmy Award for her portrayal of Maryann Thorpe in the TV show Cybillhas.

She received the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1995 and over the course of her career, she has been nominated for the Emmy's a total of fifteen times.

Denée Benton – Peggy Scott

Denée Benton takes on the role of Peggy Scott who meets Marian Brook as she travels to New York.

Peggy is an aspiring writer from an affluent neighborhood.

Benton is best known for her role in the 2016 Broadway musical, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, where she played the lead character Natasha Rostova.

She also starred in the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, where she took on the role of Eliza Hamilton.

Morgan Spector – George Russell

The role of George Russell is played by Morgan Spector, who develops a rivalry with Ada Brook and Agnes van Rhijin.

George and his partner Bertha Russell build a mansion across the street from Marian's aunts and try to break into the high society of the affluent Manhattan area.

Spector has most recently starred in the podcast series, The Miranda Obsession, which came out this year and is known for his roles in The Plot Against America (2020), Homeland (2011), and Boardwalk Empire (2010).

Carrie Coon – Bertha Russell

The role of George Russell's partner, Bertha Russell, is played by Carrie Coon, who like her husband, tries to break into high society.

Coon has also taken on roles in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Widows, and the TV adaptation of the award-winning motion picture – Fargo.

Laura Benati

The Gilded Age sees Christine Baranski reunite with her former The Good Wife co-star, Laura Benati.

A renowned Tony award-winning actress, Laura is slated to appear as a recurring character on season two of the Julian Fellowes created program.

She also was a part of the cast of the DC Comics superhero TV series, Supergirl.

Robert Sean Leonard

Similar to Laura Benati, Robert Sean Leonardo is also a noteworthy Broadway star.

Robert won the Tony Award for his performance in the 2001 play, The Intention of Love.

He also garnered fame for his roles in House, Dead Poets Society, and The Last Days of Disco.

The actor is coming on board the production of the second edition of The Gilded Age.

Returning for the show's second season is Rebecca Haden.

Rebecca had a recurring role in the first edition of the series as Flora McNeil.

Previously, the actress appeared in Madam Secretary and NCIS: New Orleans.
