Brandy and Goldberg first announced the news on The View today, reflecting on the film’s cultural significance and the singer’s role as “the first Black princess in a multicultural cast.” Brandy said, “At the time, I didn’t really grasp it all, because my dreams were coming true at the same time, but the impact that it had on me and … so many families and girls that look like me, it was just unbelievable. And looking back, I can now share this with my daughter.”

The singer, now 41, also reflected on her longtime friendship with Houston and the advice she received from her. She even talked to the late superstar three days before her passing. “She told me to please promise her to always be myself. Never change for anyone. Not for this industry, not for anyone. Just always be myself, and I won’t have any issues. And I took that.”

Looking ahead to the streaming release, Brandy said, “I’m so excited that Cinderella has a home now on Disney+, and we can celebrate and share and inspire a whole new generation.”

In the meantime, the 1950 animated Cinderella is currently available to stream on Disney+. Its lesser-known sequel and third follow-up film are on there too.
