Doug Potts (Duncan Preston) revealed during last night’s episode of Emmerdale that he wished to move to Australia, and he wasted little time in setting his plan in motion as, during tonight’s double-bill, he said his goodbyes and set off in a taxi.
Doug attended Sandy’s (Freddie Jones) funeral in Australia with Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) and Arthur, and they all returned home earlier this week. However, it soon became clear that Doug wasn’t his usual self — and thus Laurel set about getting the truth about what was going on with him.
He revealed that he didn’t want to come back to the village, and wishes that he could’ve remained in Australia, as Betty had offered him Sandy’s place.
Laurel was apprehensive, but she gave her blessing, and — during tonight’s double bill — Arthur revealed that he was sorry for what had transpired with Archie, and that he wants his granddad to go and live his life and follow his dreams.
As a result, Doug prepared to leave the village, and thus packed up all his stuff and — as the cab arrived — he bid farewell to all those important to him — and reminded them to keep tending to his plants! — before setting off for his new life in Australia.
Emmerdale continues Friday 28 February at 7pm on ITV.
