BORN from the creator of one of Netflix's biggest success stories ever in Money Heist, Sky Rojo amassed huge fanfare in its first season.
It is for this reason that creator Álex Pina is ready and raring to drop the second edition of what was a hectic first series of the show.
When is Sky Rojo being released on Netflix?
Much of the excitement surrounding the greenlighting Sky Rojo season two was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic stopping the entertainment industry in its tracks.
In November 2019, the Netflix series was officially announced with a two-season order before filming and production was finally completed in October 2020.
The second season will arrive much quicker than a standard Netflix original, with a release date set for Friday 23rd July – just four months after the first edition aired.
16 episodes of Sky Rojo were always intended to air, allowing the writers to ensure the first eight ended on a cliff-hanger.
Creator Pina and series co-creator Esther Martínez Lobato released a joint statement (via Slanted) in 2019 discussing the methods they adopt when working.
The pair said: "We wanted Sky Rojo to have the same frenetic action as always, but to use that 25-minute runtime to underline the dynamic nature of the plot: the getaway, the race for survival.
"The third act of a movie or an episode is where all the energy converges to produce the most vibrant explosion of all the conflicts that are being narrated.
"What we set out to do was to make a constant third act, to funnel our entire story through that frenzied energy."
Who's in the Sky Rojo cast?
Many of the same faces who featured in series one of Sky Rojo are expected to return for the second season, including Verónica Sánchez, Lali Espósito and Yany Prado in the lead roles of Coral, Wendy and Gina.
The villains of the series, Romeo, Moisés and Christian are also likely to return to proceedings.
The dislikeable trio are portrayed by Asier Etxeandía, Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Enric Auquer respectively.
How can I watch the Sky Rojo trailer?
Though no official trailer has been released thus far, that hasn't stopped Netflix teasing already excited fans.
The streaming service dropped a short clip which implied that Gina, Coral and Wendy will gain the upper-hand on their pursuers in season two.
What is Sky Rojo about?
The high-paced drama documents three women who have been coerced and threatened into working as prostitutes for a vile pimp and their struggle to free themselves of this lifestyle.
They eventually make a break for it and proceed to go on the run, but with two formidable henchmen hot on their heels -escaping in one piece could prove quite the task.
The first edition of Sky Rojo faced a nail-biting ending that meant the future of every character hangs in the balance as we pick things up in season two.
