Emmerdale and Coronation Street were due to air on ITV this evening in their respective time slots, with the latter scheduling an hour-long episode. EastEnders was also set to air on BBC One as the dramatic storylines continue to unfold on the Square. However, in light of Prince Philip’s death at the age of 99, all broadcasters have suspended their usual schedules for coverage on the breaking news from the Palace.
Special programming on all networks will celebrate the life and times of the Duke after he passed away on Friday morning at Windsor Castle.
The BBC has taken the decision to pull all non-news related content from broadcast and ITV are yet to make a statement.
A BBC spokesperson explained: “With the sad news that HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, has died, there is now special coverage across all BBC networks to mark his life of extraordinary public service and planned scheduling has been suspended.”
The Sun Online reports ITV will follow suit with its flagship soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street.
Express.co.uk has contacted representatives of Coronation Street and Emmerdale for comment.
