The highly-anticipated continuation of Starz’ hit series is finally underway after some minor delays amid the coronavirus pandemic. As fans tuned in to Power Book II’s third episode, Monet is already starting to show some huge cracks in her family life and business methods which Tariq may be able to exploit.

Episode three of Power Book II: Ghost, Play the Game, aired tonight on Starz and saw Tariq St Patrick (played by Michael Rainey Jr.) go full steam ahead with his risky business ventures.

As the young student and aspiring dealer deals with the pressures of Ivy League college, Tariq is also struggling to support his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) as she prepares her defence case for the trial of Ghost’s (Omari Hardwick) murder.

Meanwhile, fans were given the first glimpse at Money Tejada’s (Mary J Blige) dysfunctional family life as she prepares to go into business with Tariq.

As well as finally meeting Monet’s incarcerated husband Lorenzo (Berto Colon), viewers were also able to assess how the business mogul runs things at home.

First, there’s her obedient sons, Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray) and Cane (Woody McClain), who is often made to do her dirty work.

However, all eyes were on Monet’s rebellious daughter Diana (LaToya Tonodeo), who feels trapped by her mother’s plans and is looking for a way out.

Moreover, while Cane throws himself headfirst into his mother’s schemes, Dru is more reluctant.

Now fans have been given more insight into the Tejadas’ unsteady foundations, they’re waiting to see if Tariq is smart enough to exploit the gaps in Monet’s rival business.

Upon the release of Book II’s latest episode, viewers flooded to online forums to discuss how the events of the spin-off’s first season could go down.

Several took to Reddit convinced the events of episode three spell nothing but trouble for Monet down the line.

One fan predicted: “Another great episode, love how they started showing the cracks between Monet’s family, gonna make it easy for Tariq to rip them apart at the seams.”

Additionally, some viewers are convinced the Tejadas could see a family tragedy sometime soon, as they sensed some mounting tension between brothers Cane and Dru.

The same fan added: “I love Dru and Cain, gonna be sad what happens between them, cause it’s pretty obvious.”

Conversely, other viewers have levelled some criticism at the slow start to Power’s first spin-off, especially after the rollercoaster events of season six.

However, the series’ biggest fans fought back and argued the first three episodes have simply been laying the groundwork for Power’s new characters.

As episode three explored Monet and her children’s unconventional family dynamic, there’s plenty of foreshadowing to be found before the action starts ramping up.

Another fan argued: “The first two episodes focused on Tariq and this episode focused on Monet’s family so we understand the family dynamic, in other words this is a character-building episode.

“Power did this many times in past seasons where they focus one character throughout the episode.”

Furthermore, Monet’s risky dealings with Tariq could come back to bite her as Ghost’s shrewd son starts making a name for himself in the drug world.

One fan quipped: “Monet last all credibility as a boss a b by agreeing to go into business with Tariq.”

So far, Book II is only confirmed for one season so fans will have to wait and see if Monet and the Tejadas make it out alive.
