Starz drama series Outlander will be coming back for season six after it was renewed two years ago in a double recommission. Some of the scripts have been written and once lockdown measures are lifted, the show will be starting up again. But what can fans expect from the new series?

Will Jamie Fraser cheat on Claire in new series?

Season six will be primarily adapted from the corresponding novel A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

But as always, the writers will be looking at material from the other books in the series and whether certain storylines could work.

For instance, the Stephen Bonnet (played by Ed Speleers) storyline was brought forward from A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) sexual assault ordeal was taken from book seven An Echo in the Bone.

So, there could be more storyline added into the seasons which isn’t necessarily in A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

One storyline people are curious about involves the figure of Malva Christie because of its shocking nature.

In the books, she is Claire’s apprentice at the Fraser’s Ridge surgery in a role similar to Marsali Fraser (Lauren Lyle).

A Breath of Snow and Ashes sees Malva falling pregnant and claiming the child’s father in Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

The plotline may have led some to consider whether Jamie cheats on Claire in the novel – however, this isn’t the case.

Malva makes up the story in the hopes of Jamie feeling pity on the single mother and offering her shelter and money.

Sadly, Malva dies and Claire tries to save the unborn baby but ultimately fails when the infant perishes.

While Jamie doesn’t cheat on Claire, the accusations will rock Fraser’s Ridge as his honour is called into question.

Reflecting in a recent interview with Deadline, Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts spoke about what he’d like to do in the show if he could put Diana Gabaldon’s novels to one side.

Roberts said: “[…] I would probably have them go back to Scotland and have them do something in Scotland.

“That’s where we film and where we are able to control the world there a little better. I know we are all dying to get back to work. I don’t know.”

Heughan added: “We all miss Scotland and the character of Scotland. It would be nice to visit some previous season stuff.”

Additionally, star Heughan appeared on ITV’s This Morning earlier this week to reveal filming on Outlander season six had been delayed.

Filming on the forthcoming outing was due to start in May but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this didn’t happen.

The Scottish actor told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “We were supposed to be shooting right now and obviously things are still slightly up in the air.

“But I’m hopeful that we’re going to be back before we know it and they’re putting plans in place.”

He added: “But people can still binge it, it’s on Amazon here in the UK. You guys can watch that.”
