Neighbours' Stefan Dennis suggests soap won't include coronavirus scenes

Neighbours star Stefan Dennis has suggested that the soap won’t include coronavirus scenes in order to ‘let people move on’ from the health crisis.

The Aussie soap is paving the way for others by continuing production, with strict social distancing measures in place, but fans are curious as to whether the pandemic will be addressed on the show.

Chatting to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on This Morning, the Paul Robinson actor pointed out that episodes are filmed about three months in advance and added: ‘We’re hoping that by the time the episode we’ve filmed today…goes to air, that the Covid situation has calmed down.’

When pressed by Eamonn about whether the show will include coronavirus references, he said that the producers and writers would rather ‘let everybody move on.’

Stefan went on to describe the measures that the cast and crew are taking – from the set being split into different, colour-coded sections, to temperature testing.

‘You’ve got the makeup artists with masks and gloves and gowns,’ he explained, adding: ‘Obviously we have to keep the one and a half metre distance.’

He went on to explain that the studio has been split into four different sections and that, when his son was working on set a few weeks ago, he couldn’t even see him.

‘You can’t enter the building without being temperature checked,’ Stefan pointed out, adding: ‘There’s no touching, there’s only a certain amount of actors on a set at one time.’

Neighbours shut down production back in March amid coronavirus.

A Channel 10 spokesperson said in a statement: ‘Neighbours has decided to take a short break this week to ensure the production model in place can withstand any potential impact of the urgent COVID-19 situation.

‘The health and wellbeing of everyone on the set of Neighbours will always be our priority.’
