As Nicola Sturgeon appeared on Lorraine Kelly’s self-titled ITV show, the Scottish presenter was accused of being “biased” as she chatted to the country’s First Minister. Kelly, 62, described how newly-appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss was “very rude” to Sturgeon during the election campaign, and many viewers have hit back to call the interview a “free political broadcast for SNP”.

“We’ve both got a responsibility to the people we serve to work together,” Sturgeon remarked when asked about Truss’ Tory Party leadership success.

She continued: “We need to find ways of getting the UK through the cost of living crisis and I am ready to work constructively with Liz Truss, notwithstanding the differences we have.”

“Yeah, notwithstanding the fact that she was very rude to you, actually” Kelly replied.

“And you’re being very magnanimous and I know politics can get a little bit rough sometimes, but she did say that you should be ignored and that you were an attention-seeker.

“Clearly, she was playing to the gallery, she got a round of applause, but you just said that that’s in the past now, and you can move forward.”

“We have very different values and very different outlooks, on the future of Scotland and the world, I would say,” Sturgeon commented.

“But we are both in big positions of responsibility at the most serious time of crisis that most of us can remember.

“So we’ve got to work together. You know, she said some things during a Tory party leadership contest, I’m sure I would say some things in SNP circles about her, that’s politics.

“But we need to make sure we are doing everything we can with our responsibilities to help in a time of crisis.”

Many viewers fumed about the interview, with Twitter user @glasgowgolfer77 writing: “Had the misfortune to see Sturgeon’s latest free political broadcast on SNP TV!!!!

“Lorraine Kelly yet another fawning cult sycophant vomit-inducing toe-curling “interview” ended with the classic “thanks Nicola” not thanks first minister not thanks Ms Sturgeon.”

@InstantKarmaNow penned: “#Lorraine Pathetic Performance by Lorraine Kelly changing facial expressions of supplication to

@NicolaSturgeon – sycophantic all answers accepted without questions.”

@jillartblue added: “Watching Lorraine bowing down and worshipping Nicola Sturgeon ..not biased at all.”

“Apparently, Nicola Sturgeon told Lorraine Kelly that she and Liz Truss both have great responsibilities.

“This is a prime example of Nicola Sturgeon’s delusions of grandeur,” @PEMcNeil remarked.

@SusanWa92384435 echoed this, adding: “Just caught the party political broadcast by Nicola Sturgeon on ITV…oh wait it was actually the Lorraine show.

“@lorraine @ITV no simpering ingratiating questions there… no siree probably exchanged recipes.” (sic)

scottishlass71 fumed: “@lorraine no wonder you’re red-faced you made a F ass of yourself over Sturgeon.

“One of the biggest liars in politics is Sturgeon. We had a referendum & Scots said No. You irritate the F life out of me on politics. You’re as fake as Nicola.” (sic)

Queenof10198743 shared: “@lorraine why a political plug for the SNP on your show, Lorraine? Big mates with Nicola.”

Some thought the interview came across well though, with @brawday writing: “Nicola was great, just her usual self #Lorraine.”

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
