ITV reveal plans to keep This Morning on air during coronavirus pandemic including filming guests remotely

THIS Morning bosses have drawn up a contingency plan to ensure the show will go on during the coronavirus pandemic.

As the crisis deepens, guests may be asked to appear remotely via Skype and FaceTime, while some may be filmed in different studios all together.

Show execs could even decide to air the whole of This Morning from somewhere other than its current home inside Television Centre, located in White City in London.

An ITV spokesman said: "Our live Daytime output continues to evolve and contingency plans in place would allow us to air from alternative locations and in more nimble ways – such as guests appearing remotely via other studios or Skype and FaceTime."

News of the contingency plan comes after This Morning host Phillip Schofield revealed that the show was "hanging on by the skin of its teeth" amid the coronavirus outbreak.

During a chat with guests Anneka Rice and Matthew Wright, Phillip and co-host Holly Willoughby discussed the recent shutdown on BBC show productions – including EastEnders and Doctors.

Phil then warned: "It's bound to happen. We're all holding on by the skin of our teeth."

The stars are doing all they can to cheer up viewers during this bleak time, including changing the background in the studio for a summer one.

But things are not looking good across the entire industry.

This weekend, Saturday Night Takeaway will go ahead on ITV but without a studio audience.

Show bosses held a crisis meeting after the Government warned that people should be social distancing and not gathering in groups.

It is the first time the show will air without a live audience but a spokesman said: "Our priority is safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved.

“The show will be made with a reduced production crew and in accordance with the latest guidance from Public Health England.

“The team are looking forward to bringing our viewers a brilliant show on Saturday evening.”

On Wednesday evening, Ant and Dec were forced to rehearse SNT with the production team virtually.

The Geordie duo told their Instagram followers: "A quick hello from a very different #SaturdayNightTakeaway script meeting!"
