GREY's Anatomy fans are slamming the show's creator Shonda Rhimes for 'ruining' Alex Karev's shocking exit.
Last night, fans finally got to know why Alex left his wife, friends, and most specifically, Meredith Grey, in Seattle, Washington without even saying goodbye.
In a voiceover cameo, the pediatrics surgeon told Meredith via letter that he "left" and was with Izzy Stevens, his ex-wife from season 6.
He also left another letter to his current wife, Jo Karev, to let her know that he was Izzy because she had their twins.
And although it seemed like Alex was doing the right thing – as the husband of someone who grew up in the system and as someone who didn't have a father figure – fans were mad at how their favorite surgeon became the man who abandoned his wife for another woman.
One fan wrote: "To those that want to keep reminding us that Shonda Rhimes is not the writer on Grey's Anatomy any longer … we know.
"Shonda's influence is still a part of the show. She created these screwed up exists for our beloved characters. That's why we're damning her. Alex deserved better."
Another one chimed in and wrote: "Oh lord. How could Shona Rhimes do us dirty like this?! I don't even want to watch it."
While one fan claimed that Shonda was "ruining" her life because of the episode, another one said the show's creator should have killed him off instead.
One specific fan even called her out for being "evil" and said: "How are you going to have a character go through that much f**king growth just for him to leave people like that.
"I've never been so angry over an episode."
Other fans went as far as claiming that they would never watch the show again – a lot of fans stopped watching after Meredith's husband, Derek Shepherd was killed off – and one even exclaimed they wanted to fight Shonda.
Additionally, one fan exclaimed that the show should have had Shonda herself write the episode. She said: "Cause u ruined it. I've loved this show for so many years and u just ruined it! You should have killed him."
And another one expressed that she felt she was losing a friend and would have wanted him to come back with the kids.
Back in January, Justin Chambers – the actor who portrays Alex – announced he was leaving the show.
He said in a statement: "There's no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that's defined so much of my life for the past 15 years.
"For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.
"As I move on from 'Grey's Anatomy,' I want to thank the ABC family, Shonda Rimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, and the rest of the amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course, the fans for an extraordinary ride."
Justin Chambers was one of the four original cast members who had made it to the show's sixteenth season.
