Jean Slater was devastated on tonight's EastEnders after Daniel Cook died alone in an unexpected twist.
After some encouragement from Daniel, Jean reluctantly went with Big Mo to her oncology appointment and was given the all clear from cancer.
But overwhelmed Jean burst into tears – realising that Daniel had only promised to stay alive until she was healthy.
Back home, lying Jean told Daniel she didn’t have the result because of a mix-up, but Mo revealed the good news by saying Kat was over the moon.
Jean broke down in Daniel's arms claiming it was "not fair", but he joked: "Poor Kat, poor Mo. Sentenced to a lifetime of your fishy baskets. Anyway, only the good die young."
The pair sat in the Square Gardens and Jean got upset when Daniel started talking about death.
After making hr laugh with a joke, Daniel sent Jean to go and get a hot chocolate, then looked to the heavens when a black cat ran past.
Jean returned with the drinks and look concerned as she saw Daniel slouched on the bench.
Not looking at Daniel, she said: "You know after all that I nearly forgot the marshmallows. You are right, that is lovely.
"Now I'm going to tell you a secret. You really are the love of my life. I promise you I am going to live my life being more Miss Feisty. More Jean."
In a heartbreaking ending, Jean then burst into tears as she accepted that Daniel had passed away.
