Corrie’s Peter Ash speaks out as cousin Will Ash lands role on rival ITV soap

Coronation Street star Peter Ash showered his famous cousin Will Ash with praise after the young actor landed a role on Emmerdale.

Last Christmas, the ITV Dales welcomed a familiar face to the long-running programme as the former Waterloo Road star made his first appearance as Cain and Chas Dingle’s long-lost brother Caleb Miligan.

Since then the silver fox has won over the hearts of the nation with his dashing good looks as he plots to expose the Dingle family’s biggest secrets.

But he’s not the only famous face in his family, after fans were left shell-shocked when they learnt that he was related to fellow soap star Peter – who plays Paul Foreman on Coronation Street.

And it appears as though he has impressed his close friends and family too, after his proud cousin gushed over his famous family member in an exclusive interview with Daily Star and other press.

When asked if he had caught up with Will since he got the job, he confessed: “Actually I’ve not spoken to him since he landed the role in Emmerdale, but I'm really hoping to catch up with him soon.

“But he’s doing great work. I’m loving it, I'm loving it,” he added before cheekily cheering on the rival soap, saying: “Go on the Ashes!”

It comes as his character’s terminal condition continues to worsen while he pushes to try out a new experimental drug that aims to slow down the progression of motor neuron disease.

In recent weeks, Paul has slowly started to lose the ability of his limbs, initially starting with his right hand which has now progressed to his left foot, leaving him with a prominent limp.

With his twin sister’s Gemma Winter’s wedding to Chesney Brown right around the corner, tensions have started to rise as he continues to hide his condition from his friends and family.

Peter confessed the response from fans has been “overwhelming” after it was revealed that Paul would be be killed off on the show after battling with MND.

He went on: “It’s been amazing, it really has. It's been quite overwhelming though to get messages from people who have lost loved ones, who are currently living with loved ones who have MND.

“It really is something and I appreciate all the kind responses we’ve had so far. People have been lovely saying, ‘Oh we don’t want you to go’ and things like that, I really appreciate that.

“The fans of corrie are amazing they really are,” he gushed.
