Corrie and EastEnders' Kellie Bright win big soap prizes at TRIC Awards

Coronation Street has been named as the Best Soap by the TRIC Awards while EastEnders’ Kellie Bright has won Best Soap Actor for her portrayal of Linda Carter.

After a year which saw the heartbreaking death of Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn), the evil reign of Gary Windass (Mikey North) and evil Geoff Metcalfe’s (Ian Bartholomew) manipulation and coercive control of Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King), Corrie beat off competition from EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks to get the coveted gong.

Meanwhile, the Walford gang didn’t go home empty handed after Kellie’s harrowing portrayal of Linda’s descent into alcoholism and her self destruction saw her recognised as the genre’s top performer. She had been up against Jack P Shepherd, who plays Corrie’s David Platt and Jennifer Metcalfe, aka Hollyoaks’ Mercedes McQueen.

It’s a big year ahead for both soaps as EastEnders is riding on a high after celebrating an eventful 35th anniversary and record breaking online views from their Christmas episodes while Coronation Street aired a landmark and brilliant 10,000th episode and will celebrate a whopping 60 years on air at the end of the year.

Other award winners from the TRIC Awards were Line Of Duty, Killing Eve, The Crown, Ant and Dec Gavin and Stacey and Strictly Come Dancing.
