Coronation Street's Tracie Bennett hints at Sharon Bentley return as she bids goodbye to the Cobbles

CORONATION Street's Tracie Bennett has hinted at Sharon Bentley's return as she bid farewell to the Cobbles last Friday.

The actress, 60 – who has first appeared on the show in 1982 as Rita Tanner's foster child – reprised her role earlier this year.

After 22 years Sharon made her epic return to our screens in April and told her foster mum she was back because she had been given the all clear from cancer and given her husband Ian the boot.

However she was secretly trying to find out where Leanne Battersby, Nick Tisley and Simon Barlow were hiding for her evil nephew Harvey, who is in prison.

The evil crook has since then taken over Harvey's gang, but it doesn't look like she'll be around for long.

Although fans will be happy to hear she's teased at a return, as Tracie told her followers on Twitter: "I had just shot my very last scene ⁦⁦@itvcorrie⁩ for a while & went to dressing room to change.

"All just so I could say “Ter Ra” at this very moment.

"Thanks to those who know what they did for me & to haters & lovers. We do our best for everyone. See you soon. ‘Av it."

Sharon did all sorts of things to try and find out what the trio were hiding.

Throughout her time at Rita's, Jenny Connor had her suspicions that Sharon wasn't all she made out to be and tried to warn Rita.

It soon came out that she was Harvey's aunt and she was trying to threaten Leanne into not giving evidence against them in court.

However, the PA did give evidence in court and after realising what she was up to, Sharon had to act fast to throw them off the scent.

The dodgy woman also gave evidence against her family member to make it look like she was on their side.

She then pretended to get beaten up by Harvey's minions to look like she wasn't a part of their dodgy dealings anymore and ran back to Rita to get £10,000 out of her to restart Harvey's drug business.

However she was then later seen telling the drug gang that she was the new boss in town in a shock twist.

Although it looked like Rita fell for her sob story, the news agent knew deep down that she couldn't trust her.

On Friday evening fans were left overjoyed after Rita sent Sharon away without a penny.

Harvey was sent to prison after the jury returned its verdict of guilty.

After leaving Corrie in 1999 Tracie became a huge theatre star having performed in shows such as She Loves Me, Hairspray and many more.

She has also won two Olivier Awards for roles in West End productions and was nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Judy Garland in End of the Rainbow on Broadway.
