The Grimshaws were once one of the staple families in Coronation Street with Eileen Grimshaw (played by Sue Cleaver) and her two sons Jason (Ryan Thomas) and Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley). But in recent years, it has only been Eileen on the ITV soap who had to face dealing being married to serial killer Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) on her own. However, it could soon be time for one of her children to make a comeback.

Is Todd Grimshaw returning to Coronation Street?

While Jason was the nice but slightly dim-witted builder of a brother, Todd was perceived as the often manipulative and sneaky brains of the family.

He wasn’t always the nicest character to have around and did cause quite a stir since he first joined the soap in 2001.

Todd was in a relationship with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) but later became the first openly gay character on the show.

Just before he left, Todd was in a relationship with Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) but quickly disappeared from our screens.

Todd left Coronation Street after he assaulted a police officer and had gone on the run.

Billy and Eileen did not hear from him again after he left the street and the former has since moved on with Paul Foreman (Peter Ash).

According to multiple publications including the Daily Star, Todd is going to be making a comeback to the soap.

But actor Bruno Langley who played Todd originally will not be coming back.

Todd will make a comeback to Coronation Street but his character will be recast.

The Daily Star reported: “Castings are already taking place to find a new actor for the role originally played by Bruno Langley.”

So far, there has been no news on who will be reprising the role but a new could soon be seen as actor Brocklebank teased his character Billy will come face to face with “a blast from the past”.

Mum Eileen also told Fizz in the Rovers Return: “Every Mother’s Day or birthday it’s the same. I think this will be the time I hear from him [Todd] but I never do of course.”

So a return of this fan-favourite could happen sometime in the latter half of the year if these hints are anything to go by.

Why did actor Bruno Langley leave?

Actor Bruno Langley who originally portrayed Todd in Coronation Street was axed from the soap in 2017 after he was convicted of sexually assaulting two women in a Manchester bar.

Shortly after his conviction, ITV cancelled Langley’s contract and wrote his character out of the show.

Langley will not be making a comeback to Corrie as someone will take over his role of Todd.

But in the past few years, Langley has turned his attention to a different career.

Having given up his career in acting, Langley now works as a professional portrait photographer.

Speaking out about his new profession, Langley commented: “I’m really happy being creative in this way.

“I’ve been taking time out to catch my breath, reassess what is important to me and to make myself a better person.”

Coronation Street continues every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
