Four celebrities joined Mastermind host Clive Myrie as they each took part to raise awareness for their chosen charity. Comedian and ventriloquist Nina Conti stepped up to the challenge, hoping to outperform her competitors for the charity Mamma Bisahara with specialist knowledge on the short fiction of Stephen King. She was joined by fellow celebrities Brenton West, Fatima Manji and Martel Maxwell.
Answering her specialist subject round by herself, Nina managed to get five answers correct with no passes.
Her opening round put her in joint third place with Homes Under the Hammer presenter Martel.
The Repair Shop’s Brenton scored nine points, but journalist Fatima was off to an early lead with an impressive 10 correct answers.
When the 47-year-old took her place in the iconic BBC gameshow seat for the general knowledge round, Nina’s trusty sidekick Monkey joined her.

Clive asked: “You are a superstar ventriloquist, and I can’t quite believe that you’ve come to the mastermind studios on your own?”
Without hesitation, she reached into her purse to grab Monkey for the remainder of the show.
Fans of the show immediately took to social media to share their thoughts on the duo taking part.
@Sturdygirl0803 tweeted: “Absolutely crying with laughter at Nina Conti & Monkey answering the questions on #CelebrityMastermind.” (sic)
Caroline Moss added: “Just caught Nina Conti and Monkey on Celebrity Mastermind. Really good and so funny #mastermind #celebritymastermind.”
Dylan Roberts loved the guest appearance: “All contestants should from now on be accompanied by a monkey #celebritymastermind.”
However, some loyal viewers were not best pleased by Monkey’s hijacking of the show.

@missbillieL echoed James and said: “This is painful to watch. The Monkey isn’t funny either #CelebrityMastermind.”
Before answering her final questions, the star revealed that she only planned to do a ventriloquist for one summer.
Clive started their segment off with: “You started out as an actress at the Royal Shakespeare Company.”
Monkey jumped in over Clive’s sentence adding: “Well, that went wrong. She didn’t have enough lines.”
When discussing how she just wanted to learn an “old art form,” her furry friend jested: “Her hand went in, and she never took it out again.”
She said: “I thought I would only do ventriloquism for a summer.”
Monkey reminded her that it had now been “20 long years” that he had “been looking after” her.
As the show went on, she didn’t score much better with Monkey, and it was Brenton who came out on top after a tie-breaker with Fatima.
Brenton bested his competitors with 19 correct answers.
