While CBS, the network, renewed plenty of its programming this week, its streaming service, All Access, will be rebranded this summer, expanding on it. Some of this rebranding is already underway.
The focus of the rebrand will be on news, live sports, and on-demand entertainment, which was revealed in the CBS earnings call. ViacomCBS CEO Bob Backish said that “major changes [are] coming this summer as we track toward the rebrand and relaunch of a transformed product.” All Access will expand into the international market over the next year.
There are already a few plans being put into action for All Access at this moment. 100 movies from Paramount Pictures will be added this week, and as it gets closer to summer, a lot more content will be added. Additionally, All Access will get some updates to the UI, everything built off of what All Access has already established. The depth of VOD content will be expanded “from across the portfolio, including brands and extensions of iconic IP.”
Considering December 2019’s merger between CBS and Viacom, All Access could have “access” to content from MTV, BET, Nickelodeon, CMT, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and more.
Taking a look at the bigger streaming picture, massive upcoming streaming services like NBCUniversal’s Peacock and WarnerMedia’s HBO Max will be All Access’s main competition, offering movies, TV shows, and original content, while basing their service on content that already exists on network TV or cable. All Access may have a leg up since it’s been around longer and has well-established originals like Star Trek Discovery.
