The expert on the BBC show valuation show came across the horse, named “Muffin”, which was once a TV star, appearing alongside presenter Annette Mills in the 1950s. During the latest episode of Antiques Road Trip, Raj instantly saw the appeal of the nostalgic children’s TV character, and purchased it for just £60. It would prove to be a wise move, as it sold at auction for almost ten times this amount.

As the bidding began, Raj told fellow presenter Paul Martin: “This could really kick off.”

But neither of the men could have predicted just how sought-after the wooden horse would be.

As the price escalated beyond the £100 mark, Raj said: “£160, I’d be happy with that!”

But the number continued to soar. “Ohh, it’s going up!” Raj said excitedly.

As the figure kept rising, Paul said: “I don’t know what to say! If I was you I’d be jumping up and down by now.”

“It’s not over yet!” Raj said, watching in disbelief as the price continued to rise.

“You’re very calm, Raj,” Paul commented again as Raj appeared stunned into silence.

“£360!” He later said as the profit increased once again.

“That’s a £300 profit,” Paul observed. “That is fantastic!”

But it didn’t end there, and as the figure rounded up to the next hundred Raj repeated: “£400?”

Paul stood with his face in his hands as the auctioneer kept upping the price.

“Blooming heck! This is brilliant,” he added. Eventually, the horse was sold for £520.

“Wow!” Raj said after the sale was made, and he seemed speechless.

“I’ve got to celebrate that because that is just astonishing!” Paul said.

Raj added: “£520 – I don’t believe it!” as Paul continued: “That was a brilliant auction – a phenomenal amount of money.”

The two had been touring Dorset, Devon, Somerset and the surrounding areas on the hunt for valuable items.

The pair hoped they could make big profits at the auction in Worcestershire, but were shocked by the amount made on the single item.

Fans of the show were quick to congratulate Raj, with one taking to Twitter to say: “@AntiqueRoadTrip we love Muffin, Muffin the Mule @rajbisram @paulm_presenter Congratulations Raj.”

Another wrote: “Just been watching a TV programme that featured a clip of Muffin The Mule..ahh nostalgia! Childhood memories!”

“Muffin the Mule!” Another commented, with the character jogging peoples’ memories of the old TV show.
