Zara Tindall and Mike ‘competitive’ parenting style unveiled as royals announce pregnancy

Zara Tindall and Mike’s daughter Lena interrupts podcast

Zara Tindall, 39, is expecting her third children with husband Mike Tindall, 42. Mike announced the news on the podcast he co-hosts, The Good, The Bad and The Rugby.

The former rugby union player made the announcement and shared his excitement.

He said: “It’s been a good week for me, had a little scan last week – third Tindall on its way.”

The couple are already the parents of two young children.

Their eldest daughter, Mia Grace Tindall, six, was born in 2014.

The couple welcomed their second child, Lena Elizabeth II, two, in 2018.

Zara is the eldest granddaughter of the Queen and the daughter of Princess Anne.

Despite being in the Royal Family she is not a working royal.

Because of this, Zara, Mike and their daughters have mostly kept a low profile.

However, the family have made rare appearances out together where Mike and Zara have given a glimpse of their parenting techniques.

Speaking to, parenting experience manager at nursery Abacus Ark Jo Pandolfi commented on the couple’s parenting style.

The expert explained they may encourage gentle competition to boost the confidence of their daughters.

This technique may have been inspired by Mike’s sporting career and Zara’s success as an equestrian and Olympian.

“Zara and Mike Tindall want their daughters to be very competitive and Mike apparently beat his six-year-old when teaching her to surf,” Jo said.

“We encourage competitiveness in a healthy way when giving the children a level playing field.

“I think where a child is being set up to fail then that only promotes a lack of confidence and the child will probably not bother trying.

“However, children who are given tasks that challenge but do not set them up to fail – and who do sometimes succeed – will enjoy the feeling of amusement.”

The expert suggested Zara and Mike could be trying to improve their confidence by giving the young royals a challenge.

Jo claimed this parenting technique may help their daughter become better at dealing with challenges in the future.

“They are then far more likely to embrace new challenges as they grow and develop,” the expert stated.

“They will also have better self esteem.”
