If you own an Echo smart speaker then you might want to look away now. Amazon is about to unleash its all-new intelligent music makers onto the market and they will make your current devices look and sound massively inferior.

The online retailer announced the launch of these new Echo speakers at a blockbuster online launch event last month and they will begin shipping to customers later this week.

So what’s new from Amazon and what is so different about these devices?

Let’s start with the standard Echo which, as you may have noticed from the pictures, gets a totally refreshed look with a ball-shaped fabric finish design making it appear more curvaceous in your home.

This is a big change from the long tall look we’ve all become so familiar with.

And it’s not just the design that’s had a radical overhaul as Amazon also says it has improved the sound which means users get Echo Plus-style audio in the standard, and much cheaper, entry-level speaker.

Thanks to its 3.0-inch woofer, dual-firing tweeters, and Dolby processing Amazon is boasting that it delivers stereo sound with clear highs, dynamic-mids, and deep bass.

As with the premium Echo Studio, the new Echo also automatically senses the acoustics of your space and fine-tunes audio playback to match the room you place it in.

Another thing you may have noticed is that the famous glowing blue ring, which glows when you summon Alexa, is now on the base of the device. Amazon says this has been done to improve the visibility of the bright LED light as it will now reflect off of surfaces.

The new Echo costs the same as before with customers able to pick one up from £89.99. They will be available in four colours including Charcoal, Chalk and Steel Blue with these new Echos shipping on October 22.

It’s not just the Echo that’s been upgraded with the popular Echo Dot and Echo Dot with Clock also getting this circular design update.

The 2020 Echo Dot costs £49.99 and the Dot with Clock gets a £59.99 price tag. Both include a powerful 1.6-inch, front-firing speaker which should provide just enough power for smaller rooms in your home.

If you fancy the standard Echo Dot then this speaker will be available from October 22 with the Dot with Clock on sale from November 5.
