The first Volkswagen Golf GTI rolled off the production line 45 years ago, and in honor of this landmark celebration, the German marque has announced its limited-edition Golf GTI Clubsport 45.
As you might be able to tell from the name, the 45 Edition is based on the Clubsport version of the Mk VIII Golf. As such, it features a host of special equipment and a considerable amount of power for a hot hatch, developing 296 HP and 295 lb-ft from its two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Power is put to the tarmac via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that’s sent to the front wheels, resulting in a quick-shifting hot hatch that does 0-60 MPH in under six seconds before it continues to power onto a top speed of over 155 MPH, as it comes equipped with the Race Package that de-limits the car as standard.
Elsewhere, the Golf GTI Clubsport 45 comes with a gray paint job finished with a contrasting black roof and rear spoiler, a set of 19-inch Scottsdale rims trimmed with red pinstriping, “45” decals and badging all around, and thankfully, a sports exhaust system that delivers a throatier engine note.
Lastly, the Clubsport 45 comes fitted with a VAQ electromechanical locking front differential as opposed to the standard GTI’s electronic XDS system, meaning drivers can choose from various options such as the “Nurburgring” mode or, if so inclined, they can fine-tune the handling settings themselves.
The new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 45 is set to launch on March 1 and will cost €47,790 (approx. $58,000 USD). Take a closer look at the limited-edition model above.
Elsewhere in the automotive world, Gunther Works has created a resto-mod Porsche 993-gen 911 Speedster.
