Sydney Sweeney recreated the iconic Princess Diaries makeover scene and we love her for it

As movie makeover scenes go, few are as memorable to millennials as the one from the hit noughties movie The Princess Diaries, when Anne Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis is transformed by her glam squad ready for her royal debut.

So top marks to Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, who used the exact audio from the movie to reveal her look for the 2022 Met Gala, complete with her own “before” images in the style of the ones of Mia in the film.

In a post shared to Tory Burch’s Instagram account (Sydney’s designer of choice for her first ever Met Gala appearance), the 24 year old does indeed look like a princess in her big ballgown with her hair teased with a good amount of lived-in volume.

Meanwhile her makeup look, created by Melissa Hernanzez, paired this outfit with flawless skin, a dark smoky eye and nude lip using products by Armani Beauty – and her fans were delighted by the royal beauty transformation.

"Sydney looked stunning!!!" one fan enthused, as another declared, "Even with messy hair she still looks amazing" of the star's "before" shots.

"I loveeee, so pretty" a third fan commented, as a fourth agreed, "Gorgeous and lol love the Princess Diaries reference".

After a brief period enjoying the copper hair trend, Sydney’s hair is now firmly back to her signature blonde shade. And according to her hair stylist, this red carpet look was all about creating a balance between “gritty” and “effortless” hair.

"We've been sending each other ideas and prepping for weeks. We had a fitting and we knew immediately what the look was going to be," her hairdresser Bobby Elliot told Seventeen in an exclusive interview about the look.

"Sydney’s Tory Burch gown is very much opulent and in-theme,” he added. “It’s soft and feminine. We wanted to contrast the gown and do something a little gritty, but still young and effortless."

The key product behind her look? Bargain fans will be delighted to hear that, alongside trusted ghd stylers, Sydney's hair was created with the help of John Frieda products – including mousse, £6.99 here and the famous Frizz EaseSerum, £7.99 here.

Great to see Frizz Ease having its Met Gala moment!
