THESE Veteran Chases have been one of the best additions to the racing calendar in recent years.
Six have been declared for the next leg up at Carlisle and it looks a decent betting heat to boot.
The race will shape around the Nicky Richards pair of My Old Gold and Takingrisks.
My Old Gold will likely go off favourite, while the latter will carry top weight – a task that may prove tricky in this race despite the Scottish National's smart form. It's likely a warm-up spin for Aintree, his big target this season.
My Old Gold being favourite is fair enough. He's a consistent type, but was beat last time out off this mark and it's the arguably better-handicapped JEPECK that makes more appeal from a punters perspective.
He stays all day and this will be one for the stamina kings. He ran well when fourth to Ballyoptic last time and in calmer waters here a pound lower he should strike.
The Honeyball team continue to have a good season, with a number of horses rising through the ranks and this versatile horse has been no different.
Rex Dingle takes off a valuable 3lbs and the heavy ground will be right up his street.
Le Rocher could be the other danger. The doubt is his stamina though, and in these conditions he will be found wanting if shy on petrol when the going gets tough.
Seeyouatmidnight has beat Bristol De Mai at this course, but it's hard to trust him with your money after his comeback last time. This is a big ask after such a lengthy layoff.
Colin Tizzard's horses haven't been going great guns and even if they had been, making a case for Bally Longford would be hard work.
Stick with the reliable Jepeck under Rex Dingle to beat off the Richards pair.
