My friend has become distant and keeps cancelling plans — I’m worried about her – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: LATELY my best friend has been distant and I’m worried about her. We have been inseparable for ten years.

We have a good group of friends but she has been cancelling plans to come out with us, at the last minute.

I’ve not seen her for weeks now, though we only live a ten-minute drive from each other.

I don’t know what to do. Should I raise it with her that I’m worried about her?

But if I’m not getting to see her, I’ve no chance to do this in person. I don’t want to do it by text.

If she is feeling down, I don’t want her to feel attacked. What should I do? We’re both 28.

DEIDRE SAYS: If she’s feeling low, joining a whole group of even good friends could feel intimidating.

She may feel better able to open up if it is just the two of you.

Ask her round to your place or out for a quiet supper and say you would like a chance for the two of you to catch up.

If she ducks that, write her a card, saying what a good friend she has always been and that you want to know she is OK so would like to fix a date for you to call round to see her.
