Morrisons is just one of the supermarkets in the UK who has responded to the coronavirus pandemic with food boxes and new delivery services. Morrisons launched the next day delivery service back in April after receiving calls from customers who were self-isolating, elderly and vulnerable who were unable to visit a shop. This has now been extended to ensure that all customers can still get the groceries they need.
Over 100,000 orders have now been delivered to customers across the UK and customers are able to place orders directly over the phone.
With many supermarkets having little to no delivery slots available, Morrisons ensures that the food is delivered the following day between 10am and 6pm.
Deliveries will be made by a store colleague from customers’ local stores, often by the stores Community Champion – who helps out with members of their nearby neighbourhood.
With the service previously only being available for the elderly and vulnerable, the supermarket has extended this to all of their customers who are self-isolating.
David Potts, Morrisons Chief Executive said: “The ‘Doorstep Delivery’ service has been a lifeline to many of our customers who can talk to an actual person and order their essential groceries.
“We are playing our full part in feeding the nation and ensuring those that are most in need can receive a delivery from Morrisons.”
When placing an order over the phone, customers can choose from a menu which has a list of essential grocery items like milk, butter, eggs, potatoes, pasta, bananas and flour.
Customers can also request additional items that are essential to their household.

On delivery, customers can pay via a mobile chip and pin device with the standard delivery being £4.50.
There is no delivery charge for elderly and vulnerable shoppers.
Those who are self-isolating and in need of an emergency grocery delivery need to phone 0345 611 6111 and select option five.
The supermarket has also launched a new food box filled with essential items.
Costing £20 including delivery, the essentials box includes pasta, rise, pasta sauce, tuna, chickpeas and a kit to make home-made curry.
Other items include cornflakes, custard creams, toilet roll and baked beans.
The supermarket giant is also one of the first supermarkets who has launched a delivery service for students who are self-isolating.
The delivery service allows students to pick from five different food boxes which will be delivered to their front door.
Students who are stuck inside can choose from Meat Essentials, Vegetarian Essentials, Easy Meals for the Week and the Big Night In box.
If customers are able to visit a Morrisons store, then there are new rules and changes implemented by the supermarket.
Morrisons has confirmed that it is rationing selected items, and has introduced buying limits on some of its most popular essentials to help prevent panic buying and stockpiling.
Purchases will be restricted to three items per customer on a small number of products including toilet toll and disinfectant to help make sure that all customers can get the products they need.
