Meghan Markle Just Revealed Son Archie's Sweet Reaction to 'The Bench'

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has a new children’s book, The Bench, and it’s Archie-approved. In a recent interview the 39-year-old revealed how 2-year-old Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor feels about her book.

‘The Bench’ is inspired by Prince Harry and Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

Meghan got the inspiration for The Bench from her husband and son. It all started when the former Suits star wondered what to get her husband, Prince Harry, for his first Father’s Day following Archie’s birth in May 2019.

“As most of us do, you go, what am I going to get them as a gift? And I thought I just wanted something sentimental and a place for him to have as a bit of a home base with our son,” Meghan told NPR‘s Weekend Edition shortly before The Bench’s release on June 8, 2021.

She decided on a bench. On the back Meghan added a personal touch in the form of a poem, which reads: “This is your bench where life will begin/For you and our son/Our baby, our kin.”

The bench, which sits on the grounds of the family’s sprawling home in Montecito, California, is where Meghan’s witnessed many special moments between Harry and Archie. So she decided to write a book about it, detailing the special relationship between fathers and sons by way of a bench.

Meghan Markle says her son ‘loves’ her children’s book

In the same interview Meghan revealed Archie’s reaction to The Bench

“Archie loves the book,” she said. “Which is great because he has a voracious appetite for books.”

The Duchess of Sussex continued, saying it’s “amazing” she can tell her son she wrote a book for him.

“And, constantly, when we read him a book, he goes, ‘Again, again, again,’” Meghan said. “But now the fact that he loves The Bench, and we can say, ‘Mommy wrote this for you,’ feels amazing.”

This isn’t the first time the public’s heard about Archie’s love of books. Harry and Meghan shared a video to mark their son’s first birthday in May 2020. Filmed by Harry, Meghan read Duck! Rabbit! to Archie while he sat in her lap. Posted on social media by Save the Children and No Kid Hungry, the video supported both organizations and included a few laughs from both Harry and Meghan.

Meghan Markle now has another child to share ‘The Bench’ with

And then there were four. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now a family of four. Meghan gave birth to her and Harry’s second child shortly after her NPR interview. The couple welcomed a daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, at 11:40 a.m. on June 4, 2021.

Born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Lili weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Her name is a nod to Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose childhood nickname was Lilibet as well as Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

Now that Archie loves The Bench, chances are Harry and Meghan will read it to Lili. It seems she’ll also be part of creating new memories at the bench that inspired the book.
