Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Frenkie de Jong WILL go on Barca tour, new away kit launched, Martinez latest – updates | The Sun

FRENKIE DE JONG is heading on Barcelona's pre-season tour – despite Manchester United agreeing a deal with the club for the midfielder.

De Jong, 25, is determined to stay at the club regardless of the fact that a £72million deal has been agreed for him.

Christian Eriksen IS heading to United though, after the free agent signed on with Erik ten Hag.

The Danish magician rejected an extension deal with Brentford to make the switch to Old Trafford this summer.

Meanwhile, there remains a huge stumbling block in Manchester United's bid to sign Frenkie de Jong: he doesn't want to leave Barcelona.

That is despite Manchester United agreeing a £63million initial fee with the Catalan club for the Dutch midfielder, 25.

More on De Jong and Depay's boat trip

De Jong, 24, has been the focus of United's transfer activity and despite a £71.5million fee being agreed he appears to be no closer to a move.

But amid rows over pay and doubts about De Jong joining Barca's pre-season tour, the midfielder relaxed on a boat alongside Depay, who left United in 2017 after scoring just seven goals in 53 games.

The pair posed for a photo together before being filmed diving into the sea near Barcelona – with Depay pulling off an acrobatic backflip.

De Jong also went paddleboarding with his fiancee Mikky Kiemeney, having proposed to the 24-year-old earlier this month.

De Jong appears relaxed about his uncertain future and is certainly making the most of what the city of Barcelona has to offer in case he does leave.

    United receive De Jong blow

Man United chief Joan Laporta has revealed that Frenkie de Jong WILL travel to the United States for pre-season despite ongoing transfer talks with Manchester United.

De Jong, 25, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

United have reportedly had a £71.5million bid accepted by the La Liga giants for the Dutchman, but he is eager to stay at Camp Nou.

And while all parties involved are still unclear about his future, Laporta has confirmed that he will continue his club duties by travelling with the rest of the squad to the US.

On Friday, he said: “It’s not true that we are forced to sell Frenkie de Jong, this is not correct.

“Frenkie’s trip to the US will be decided by Xavi. I understand that Frenkie will be on the US tour.”

    Man Utd wonderkid Zidane Iqbal

Zidane Iqbal is the new name on Manchester United fans' lips.

The talented attacking midfielder, 19, was superb against Liverpool in a preseason friendly in Thailand this week.

And showed flashes of his talent in the win against Melbourne yesterday.

It followed his first-team debut last year, in the 1-1 draw against Young Boys in the Champions League.

With a name like 'Zidane', the Iraqi Under-23s international always had massive boots to fill.

Manchester-born Iqbal joined United in 2012 – at the age of just nine – and is well on his way to becoming a superstar.

    Defensive stats for Martinez

With Lisandro Martinez all but confirmed as part of Erik ten Hag's squad – the stats suggest he could be the answer to Manchester United's defensive woes.

With two great pre-season results so far – 4-0 vs Liverpool and 4-1 vs Melbourne – there are still questions marks over their defence following a shocking 2021-22 season.

The Argentinian ace, 24, is a ball-playing rock and exactly what the Dutch chief needs.

And the stats suggest the defender, who worked under Ten Hag in Holland, is the perfect fit the new-look squad.

Martinez may not be the final former Ajax star to head to Old Trafford this summer with Ten Hag desperate to land Frenkie de Jong too.

However, United have already approached Ligue 1 side Lens over an £8m swoop, according to the Evening Standard.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have signed Christian Eriksen on a three-year deal.

    Inter still keen on Dybala

Man United may have cooled their interest in Paulo Dybala, but the same can't be said of Inter Milan.

The Serie A side are still reportedly keen on snagging the ex-Juventus forward, despite bringing in Romelu Lukaku, according to TMW.

They claim Inter will swoop for the striker in the next few days, although Roma are said to be in pole position to land him, closely followed by Napoli.

However, Inter will have to move fast to land Dybala who's growing increasingly frustrated about his future, it was added.

"I don't think it would have been the same. But at the same time, I don't think people would have noticed.

Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon has placed Cristiano Ronaldo on the list of best players he's gone up against in his career.

The 44-year-old's come up against the best of the best during his illustrious career.

And the Parma stopper admitted that Ronaldo is one of the few non-Italian players who have given him a headache on the pitch.

Bickering PSG duo Mbappe and Neymar were also added to the elite collective by Buffon.

He said to Cult of Calcio after declaring the names of native counterparts: "As for foreigners, I’d say Thuram, Neymar, Mbappé, CR7, and Ibra.”

    Nani gets classy gift

Man United legend Nani has revealed his joy after being presented with a touching tribute by the club on their pre-season tour.

Nani signed for United's opponents Melbourne Victory just three days prior.

And before the match proceeded, the Portuguese legend was handed a 2022/23 United shirt with the No17 on it, which is the same digits he donned during his Old Trafford career.

Nani was overwhelmed by the gesture and beamed to the backdrop of raucous applause: "That was fantastic. What a great feeling. It's amazing when you can feel the warmth from the fans and it's nice when you come on a field and see some old teammates.

"All the good memories at Man United came into my head, makes me feel like I'm missing old times, but you need to look forward.

"I just want to wish all the success for the new coach, the new team, and I hope the club can get back on the position where they belong and start winning the trophies we are missing so much."

    Ten Hag gives goal explanantion

Man United "folded like a deck of cards" when they conceded a goal in their 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory.

The Red Devils followed up their 4-0 drubbing of Liverpool by scoring another quartet against the Australian outfit during pre-season.

But their hopes of a clean sheet were wiped when Melbourne bagged a goal.

And the entire United team were blasted by Ten Hag for the momentary lapse of concentration.

Ten Hag said: "I don't want to talk about individuals because I think it was from the start high up the pitch, the wrong choices.

"And then it ended up like a pack of cards. It ended up with a goal against, but it was not one individual, it was more the team who make mistakes."

He recently turned down a contract offer from the Bundesliga champions worth around £200,000-a-week.

As a result, he has just one year remaining on his current deal.

However, following negotiations with club chiefs, the winger has now had a change of heart.

How United can miss Champions League

Man United's lack of transfer activity this summer could cost them a place in the Champions League next season.

The Red Devils have just managed to sign Christian Eriksen, and are trying to bring in Frenkie de Jong plus Lisandro Martinez.

However, the elite European competition could elude the Prem titans if they bring in the aforementioned duo, or any other fresh faces for that matter.

That's according to Paul Merson, who told Sportskeeda: "I’ll put Manchester United in the reckoning for a place in the top four because they are a massive club.

"But they haven’t done enough business at this point in time to stand a chance of securing UEFA Champions League football, so it should be between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal."

    Martial tipped for United comeback

Anthony Martial has been tipped to turn things around at Man United by new boss Erik ten Hag.

Martial was shipped out on loan to Sevilla last season and was expected to leave on a permanent basis.

However, he's been a part of United's pre-season squad, and Ten Hag reckons the winger can come good with the right focus and discipline.

Ten Hag said: "I'm sure he can come back even better.

"I think when he has the right focus and the right motivation and he works hard he will have production because he is a good player.

"I say when he has the right focus and every day delivers his max then he will have production and it's up to him."

    Ten Hag gets thumbs up

Scott McTominay has revealed that the Man United squad are really happy with new boss Erik ten Hag.

He told United's media: "Whenever you’ve got a new manager, there’s a lot of new ideas, a lot of things we have to take on board in terms of what the manager wants from us, a slightly different formation as well and different ideas, which is important.

“We need to dial into them, and I think tonight is a good test in terms of the team that we’re playing against.

“They played a little bit deeper, it’s harder to break down, [so we have to come up with] different ideas and ways that we can get into their box and create scoring opportunities.

“Everyone’s so, so happy with the new coach in terms of the detail and attention to the work that we’re doing, and everyone’s so fit now. And we can get fitter, I can get fitter, the whole team can, which is obviously a benefit for the future as well.”

    Eriksen 'is a leader'

Man United have gained a leader in the form of Christian Eriksen.

That's the view of Red Devils' Football Director, John Murtough, who made the claim after Eriksen finalised completed his move to Old Trafford.

Murtough said: “Christian has been one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe throughout his career. It is no surprise that he had so many options this summer, so we are really happy that he was convinced that this is the right club for him.

“In addition to his outstanding technique, Christian will add valuable experience and leadership skills to the squad, and we are looking forward to seeing the benefits of these qualities on the pitch this coming season and beyond.”
