Season 1 of Netflix dating series “Love Is Blind” has just come to an end, with the popular streaming service uploading its final wedding episode Thursday. The show’s premise — involving couples who meet, date and become engaged without seeing one another — immediately captivated viewers, as hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey guided the starry-eyed lovers through the ups and downs of a sightless courtship, resulting in two of the show’s six couples actually making it down the aisle.
A large part of setting the mood for any dating reality series is location. Not only does it need to exude a certain level of luxury that translates on-camera, but should be able to set the scene for blossoming romance. Netflix’s selected locale — the Grand Velas Riviera Maya in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico — did just that, as viewers soaked up just as much sun — via the boob tube — as the contestants who enjoyed five-star dinners, extravagant suites and stolen kisses beside the Caribbean sea.
The all-inclusive resort includes 539 suites over 1,100 square feet — including those highlighted on the series which boast ocean-view balconies and private plunge pools. The property also features eight restaurants — including Cocina de Autor, which holds the AAA Five Diamond Award, the first all-inclusive restaurant in the world to do so. Several of these eateries also hosted various date nights for couples like audience faves, Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton.
Included on Forbes Travel Guide’s list of The World’s Most Luxurious Spas, the SE Spa provided tension relief during couple’s massages while contestants also enjoyed the 24-hour personal concierge and 24/7 in-suite service — which is available for all guests willing to put up a pretty penny.
The resort is hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the Netflix series with a special “Love Is Blind” themed special that includes accommodations in a 1,300-square-foot Grand Class Suite, which includes a three-course gourmet dinner on the room’s oceanfront private terrace. A bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate truffles will also help to set the mood. The package also includes a $100 credit for the excursion of your choice and a $50 credit towards the aforementioned SE Spa. The deal even covers airfare to-and-from the decadent destination.
While that seems hard to resist, the package does not include a potential partner waiting to fall head-over-heels in love. For fans looking to truly indulge in that fantasy, be sure to keep tabs on Season 2 of the hit show. While Netflix has yet to officially announce its renewal, the series is currently the top show on the service, all but guaranteeing its return.
