I'm 25 and I don't know if my relationship with my older girlfriend, 42, will last

DEAR DEIDRE: EVEN though my girlfriend is perfect, I am worried whether our relationship can last.

I am 25 and she is 42. I met her at work four years ago. I thought she was stunning from the first moment and I could tell she liked me, too.

I eventually asked her out. She was reluctant initially but I persuaded her.

We went for dinner and there was an intense attraction between us. She invited me back to her place and we had sex. It was so special and perfect.

We have loads in common and are now officially together. We have talked of a future together. Neither of us wants children. We have met each other’s families and everybody is fine with it.

We are head over heels in love but 17 years is a big difference.

DEIDRE SAYS: Lots of relationships with a similar age gap do last.

It’s more usual for the man to be the older partner, but neither of you wants to have children so you face no more extra pressures than they do.

It is still a new relationship so, for now, just enjoy what you have.
