How Gibraltar became the hottest holiday destination of 2021 – as the country going mask-free & with breaks from £126pp

WHO would have thought that the small British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar would become the hottest holiday destination of the year?

While an unlikely holiday choice for Brits, the destination's popularity is set to skyrocket when foreign travel hopefully resumes from May 17 – for several reasons.

Gibraltar is one of the most likely places to be on the 'green' list when it is announced, as it has a 100 per cent vaccination rate and "zero cases of Covid", according to officials.

The full list of destinations included in the traffic light scheme is expected to be announced tomorrow, with hopes that a handful of European countries could be deemed low-risk.

Of the Brit-favourite hot summer holiday destinations, only Malta, Gibraltar and possibly Portugal are likely to make the 'green list.'

Travel to the UK from a green listed destination will mean tests before and after entry into England, but no need to quarantine after arrival.

Gibraltar, which is yet to open to Brits, has said it will not require Covid tests or evidence of vaccine to enter – making it the easiest destination with no travel restrictions.

If the country does open later this month, families will be able to find cheap deals and good weather.

At the end of March, the compulsory rule of having to wear face masks in outside public spaces was lifted.

Masks do still have to be worn on public transport and in shops, but the country is now mask-free outside.
