Cheltenham Festival tips: Cross Country trends – we help you find the winner of the race live on ITV at 4.10pm today

  • Irish horses running over hurdles last time have a good record
  • No horse younger than eight has won this race, only one older than 10.
  • First three in the betting have strong recent record
  • Experience of the track is important

TIGER ROLL can make it three Cross Country Chase wins in a row.

The age stat is strong in this race with horses younger than eight failing to win. That accounts for Diesel D’Allier and the fancied Easysland.

Those aged 11 and above have a modest record too so cross out Josies Orders, Kingswell Theatre, Might Bite, Outlander, Out Sam and Urgent De Gregaine.

Previous experience of the track is important so Arelequin D’Allier, Sumkindofking and Utility fall by the wayside.

Outsiders haven’t figured in recent seasons, so Chic Name and Fact Of The Matter look too long in the market to have a serious winning chance.

That brings us to a shortlist of three – Neverushacon, TIGER ROLL and Yanworth.

It really is hard to see past the Tiger making it three in a row. He ran over hurdles last time, is the right age and has the vital experience of the track. Unlike the others, his experience is all about winning here.

If this was a handicap he’d be giving stones away to the whole field yet gets to race off level weights. He should be far too good.
