Game, set and match! No Wimbledon? No problem! Check out our top 10 courtside style icons from 2019
Wimbledon! One of those classic British occasions we look forward to all year.
The strawberries and cream, the high expectations, the disappointment, the on-court tantrums, the unpredictable weather, Henman Hill; we love it all.
And there’s nothing like a bit of courtside style spotting either. So to say we’re sad that this year’s tournament isn’t taking place is an understatement.
But keen to get our hit of the fashion mavens who know how to dress perfectly for the summer season, we’ve taken a look back at 2019’s event to see who was winning the grand slam of style!
Here are a few of our favourites. Feel free to take inspiration for your own summer of fun…
A right royal style star
The Duchess of Cambridge was elegant as always at Wimbledon 2019
What would Wimbledon be without the presence of the Duchess of Cambridge? A less elegant place that’s for sure.
Last year alone she wore a lovely belted white tea dress, this ultra pretty pastel blue confection and this gorgeous green midi for her time watching the action on Centre Court.
With her glossy locks and classic make-up Kate is always timeless and perfectly attired for any occasion and a great inspiration for anyone looking for a dress for a summer wedding.
We can’t wait to see what she’ll wear next year!
L-R: Jourdan Dunn, Laura Whitmore and Neelam Gill took the on-court rule for wearing white at Wimbledon off the court with fabulous results
As we all know there are very strict rules about what the players can wear on court at Wimbledon.
Their kit has to be all-white from top to toe. And we’ll never forget when Andre Agassi had to leave to get changed, after not realising quite how seriously this dress code was taken.
But last year, there were many guests who clearly took it to heart, wearing white for their day watching the tennis.
Supermodel Jourdan Dunn looked gorgeous in her broderie anglaise shirt dress, while Laura Whitmore showed off her stems in a cute little mini, which she styled with rather cool platform sandals.
And model Neelam Gill was definitely in a sporty mood in this ace (get it?) polo shirt dress and sneakers. LOVE the hit of tie dye colour wrapped around her waist too.
L-R: Nicole Richie, Claire Foy and Caggie Dunlop all flirted with florals at last year’s Wimbledon
Floral prints are always in style and they look great on a sunny day at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club too.
Ever the Boho beauty, Nicole Richie took hers to the max in a floor length look, while actress Claire Foy’s were sparsely printed on a bright white background. LOVE the halter neck and button through cut of this midi by the way Claire. Well played.
And former Made in Chelsea starlet, Caggie Dunlop wore her florals in a frilled, wrap style, accessorising with wedge sandals and an oversized hat. Très chic.
Quirky and cool
L-R: Lily Allen and Adwoa Aboah doing things their own way at Wimbledon 2019
There’s no rule to say that you have to wear a classic summer dress to Wimbledon and these four women prove that mixing things up can be just as stunning.
Lily Allen rocked clashing oversized gingham and florals, while model of the moment Adwoa Aboah, kept things understated and sophisticated in white jeans, ballet pumps and a smart tailored overcoat. The bag and shades are very cool too.
L-R: Janelle Monae and Ruth Wilson weren’t afraid to stand out from the crowd in bold stripes
And these two style icons were guaranteed to turn heads in their statement striped ensembles.
Janelle Monae rocked a skirt suit with knee high socks and a jaunty red cap while Ruth Wilson did monochrome stripes in a dipped hem dress, adding a red belt and shades for good measure.
Stripes are a perennial trend and when they’re worn like this, they’re an especially good idea.
With no tournament this year we can only hope these fabulous fashion mavens all turn up again next year looking just as fly as they did at Wimbledon 2019.
