Frank Lampard issued an “urgent message” on Twitter telling people to stay home in order to save lives.

The Chelsea boss, 41, made the appeal through the club's official page amid the coronavirus crisis continuing to devastate the UK and the world.

He said: “To help save lives, you must stay home.

“Only leave your home to buy essential food, medicine or for individual exercise and always stay two metres apart.

“This is an urgent message: stay home, protect the NHS, save lives.”

Manchester United have offered youngster Angel Gomes a new £30,000-a-week contract to fend off interest from Chelsea, according to reports.

Gomes, 19, is out of contract at the end of the season with the club struggling to tie him down to a lengthy deal.

But the Metro report how the Red Devils have made a final last-gasp offer to persuade him to stay.

It is understood Gomes is on around £10,000-a-week at present, and United would be willing to boost that to around £30,000-a-week.

The contract is likely to be a base salary of £25,000 with potential bonuses included.

Old Trafford chiefs would also be open to allowing him to leave on loan, to gain valuable first-team experience next season.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is wary of pushing his players too hard during this period of uncertainty.

The coronavirus pandemic has led to the suspension of the Premier League, with games not set to kick off again until April 30 at the very earliest.

Lampard said: “It is very difficult at the moment because we have got nothing concrete in front of us.

“We have seen that things can change very quickly, so we can only go by the dates we have been given but daily or probably weekly we are looking at it saying, 'Well, how do we train? What does it look like?'

“The last thing I want to do when the players are in this position is to try and push and push and push [them] for no reason.”

Chelsea have in the last few minutes issued a statement about their proposed new stadium.

The Blues were supposed to be building a new stadium on the site of their existing Stamford Bridge home.

But their statement just now said: “Chelsea Football Club acknowledges that the planning permission we obtained for a new stadium expires on 31st March 2020.

“We are grateful to all our fans and stakeholders, especially Hammersmith & Fulham Council, for their patience and understanding in the matter. We will continue to consider our options for a new stadium, should economic conditions improve.”
