Gogglebox returns for its 17th season on Channel 4 tonight and some familiar faces will be returning. Giles Wood joined the reality series with his wife Mary Killen back in 2015 and they have become known as one of the quirkiest couples. Giles has often mentioned how he was able to retire at the age of 21 and fans are keen to find out about his working life.
What does Giles from Gogglebox do?
Gogglebox has been giving viewers insight into the lives of families across the UK for many years.
The observational series brings fans into the living rooms of the participants so they can discover more about their personal lives as they watch the latest TV shows.
Giles and Mary have become one of the most iconic couples on the series for their nickname ‘nutty’ and other quirky mannerisms.
They both live in their picturesque cottage in Wiltshire and fans are envious of their laid-back lifestyle.
While Mary is an author and columnist, viewers are interested in finding out more about her husband’s work.
Giles is an artist and he has his own website exhibiting a stunning gallery of his landscape paintings.
His website says: “Eschewing the modernist aesthetic to pare away detail to the logical conclusion of the blank canvas, Wood enjoys painting the clutter of peoples’ lives and popular demand has recently led him away from his trademark landscapes to specialise in interiors.”
The reality star said he enjoys the “contemplative aspect” of watching the light change in a room.
He said: “There are as many changes as with a landscape. I always work in oils as they give more depth. The finished painting should offer an insight into the painter as well as the subject.”
Fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on his work, with one saying: “I would never have guessed Giles was an artist! I love his work. So impressed and his subjects are brilliant.”
Giles was taught by British artist Maggi Hambling and he attended Wimbledon Art School.
He used to paint outdoor landscapes but has since turned his attention to interiors and he takes on plenty of commissions.
The artist has painted interior landscapes for plenty of highly-esteemed businessmen and authors.
For his landscapes he has been able to charge up to £1,000 per painting, so his commissioned interiors are likely to cost even more.
Realitytitbit.com estimated his net worth to be between £300,000 and £500,000.

Fans have been curious to find out what Giles does as Mary had made a remark about him retiring at a young age.
The couple had been talking about coronavirus and “herd immunity”, and Giles said: “Just as I’m starting to enjoy my retirement”.
Mary questioned the statement, saying: “You haven’t worked first. You retired at 21, so now you can start working – do it in reverse.”
If he has made all of his money through his paintings, it may be something he does not consider as ‘work’.
Realitytitbit went on to look into the value of the couple’s home in order to gain more insight into their earnings.
Having looked at other Wiltshire cottages for sale, they found the average cost to be £500,000.
Both Giles and Mary have seen great success in their careers, with many having penned a number of books.
She has written about her husband’s work and has been a columnist for The Spectator.
Fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the couple, with one saying: “All I want in life is a relationship like Giles and Mary on Gogglebox.”
Another said: “Giles and Mary from Gogglebox are my new role models in life.”
