TOWIE’s Kelsey Stratford shares pride over sister, eight, ‘not giving up’ amid coronavirus fight

The Only Way Is Essex star Kelsey Stratford has shared her pride over her sister Kennedy as she continues to fight coronavirus and sepsis in intensive care.

The 19 year old reality star paid tribute to her eight year old sister as she urged her 124,000 followers to keep Kennedy in their thoughts.

Kelsey also explained how severe her sister Kennedy’s condition is. The eight year old has spinal muscular atrophy, which is a genetic condition that makes the muscles weaker and causes problems with movement, according to the NHS.

Kelsey, who recently dropped out of filming for TOWIE after her sister’s hospitalisation, wrote on her Instagram story: “No one understands how proud i am of my baby sister!! [sic]

“Kids who have SMA type 1 normally cannot even survive a common cold, as hey cant even swallow themselves they have breathing problems as it is …”

She continued: “but she is fighting off covid & sepsis… she is ovbiously very poorly, and its taking alot of hard work ofcourse, deep functioning, constant cough assists, constant treatments all day long but she’s not giving up”. [sic]

TOWIE star Kelsey gushed over her sister as she wrote: “She is just unbelievable,” followed by a red heart emoji.

She then urged fans and followers to keep Kelsey in their thoughts as said: “everyone still keep her in your thoughts & prayers please thankyou all xxx”.

In another post, Kelsey continued to open up on her sister’s health condition.

Kelsey, who called coronavirus evil as she updated fans recently, wrote: “Every year of kennedy life she has been in intensive care from just a common cold, which always leads into pneumonia or other awful infections, many of those years she has been put on a life support machine…

“kennedy has always struggling in the winter & even before covid we never had anyone in our house in the winter…

“and everyday on a normal day we wash our hands and change our outside clothes before we go into see kennedy…

“this was all before covid, do you can imagine how much we tried to protect her from getting covid, but somehow she did and were all heartbroken she caught such a terrible virus as we know how much its going to harm her poor little body”.

She continued in another post: “She's been through so much all her life and she's only 8…we also lost my brother to SMA when he was just 4 months old.

“He stopped breathing in the middle of the night. This is why I want to raise awareness and need more people to fundraise for @sma_uk because people need to realise how awful this disease is and there are millions of babies going through the same thing…not just mine!

“And i want to help all those little babies too.

“To all the SMA families that follow me I send you all so much love and just want you all to know that you are real life heroes, never give up” followed by a pink heart emoji.

Kelsey is currently raising money for charity Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK with a Christmas Jumper Day on Just Giving.
