Back in 2019, jack of all trades Harry Styles hosted Saturday Night Live. And while fans undoubtedly have fond memories of the gig, an unreleased photoshoot from the show somehow surfaced on the internet — and it just so happens to be of Styles dressed as Ariel from Disney's animated classic, The Little Mermaid. Naturally, as they do, Twitter users couldn't contain their excitement, especially knowing that Styles had previously turned down the role of Prince Eric in Disney's upcoming live-action remake.
In the photos, Styles is wearing Ariel's signature seashell bra and has a green tail along with a bright red wig. He's also holding a glass of Champagne and a cigarette. Not quite on-brand for Disney princesses, but very much so for Harry Styles. Notably missing? Gadgets and gizmos aplenty, whosits and whatsits galore.
Twitter users joked that Styles turned down the role of Prince Eric because he was vying for the titular role, instead. Others found snapshots of him wearing a shirt with a quote from the film, "But daddy I love him." Actor Jonah Hauer-King was eventually cast as Eric, instead.
"I had a meeting with Rob Marshall, the director, who is the most wonderful man," Styles said during an appearance on the U.K. radio show Capital Breakfast with host Roman Kemp. "He's great, and it was just honestly a few things and it just wasn't … It's going to be an amazing film."
Awkwafina, who will be portraying lovable seagull and snarfblatt/dinglehopper connoisseur Scuttle, also revealed that she's a Styles fan, though she also let everyone know that Hauer-King made for a picture-perfect Disney prince.
"I am a big fan of Harry Styles," she told Kemp. "[Jonah] is really great, too."
