I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020 was set in Wales instead of Australia due to the ongoing coronavirus. Speaking exclusively to, contestant Russell Watson, 54, said he believes the latest series was a “big hit” due to the great bond the campmates had.

We did get on and I think that’s one of the reasons why it was such a big hit

However, one particular moment which hit the headlines was when AJ Pritchard, 26, and Shane Richie, 57, appeared to clash about the washing up.

The former Strictly Come Dancing professional accused the actor of not cleaning the dishes properly after he left them to soak.

In another tense moment, the actor appeared to throw his dish on the floor when AJ was on washing up duties.

Russell has now said the moment “didn’t register” with the campmates at the time and he only noticed their exchange when he watched it back.

He said: “No! Everyone in the camp got on.

“To be honest I didn’t actually see it, I only saw evidence of it when I watched a replay of the show when I got home.

“There was a moment with AJ cleaning the trays and Shane had done something, I mean that didn’t even register on any of our clocks, when that supposedly happened.”

What the tenor did notice however, was how “filthy” he claims the camp was.

“It was damp, dusty and filthy dirty in there,” he spilled.

“When I was on brushing duties, I used to say, ‘Right everyone, out of the living area,’ so everyone had to get out of the living area and I started brushing up because it just generates this massive cloud of dust, like fog.

“You’re sweeping it up everywhere, because it’s an old castle.”

On his experience as a whole, he added: “I still miss it now!”

“There wasn’t all the arguing and the pettiness and the bickering because we did get on and I think that’s one of the reasons why this year it was such a big hit,” he concluded.

AJ and Shane both have both spoken out about how the tense moments appeared between them on camera after the show.

Speaking to Ant and Dec after his eviction, the dancer said of his comments about Shane’s washing up: “If you’re going to do a job do it properly and… come on, hygiene!”

Speaking to his brother Curtis Pritchard on their podcast AJ vs Curtis podcast, he added: “If you don’t stand your ground in those situations people are just gonna walk over you.

“I may be small, but I’m still going to give my opinion.”

Despite their minor clash, he added Shane was a “good guy and a great storyteller”.

Shutting down speculation there was such a feud between them, Shane said on This Morning: “That is just nonsense. I don’t know where that has come from.

“AJ was teaching me to dance. He would give me a one-to-one. We had some great chats.”
