Chris Packham did not hold back as he took to social media and slammed West Ham bosses and also hit out at Kurt Zouma’s “pathetic apology”. The television presenter has condemned the action of the defender for kicking his family’s pet cat, as he questioned the integrity of football.

In a lengthy post, the 60-year-old ripped into the West Ham officials as he called for current vice-chairman Karren Brady to take action.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, Chris fumed: “The rancid stench of arrogance and no accountability is choking our lives and the London Stadium reeks of it tonight.

“There sport, once held as a paragon of fairness and excellence, is blighted by greed and a wholesale disregard for our most treasured basic values.”

He went on: “They have lost any plot that remained, and we are losing the game.

“We have a consummate love for our pets, we revere, nourish and nurture them.

“And in return, they keep us happy, sane, sometimes alive. We have laws to protect them, but those laws, those standards protect us too. They are not just there to save cats from being kicked and slapped, they are there to remind us of what being human is.

“Of kindness, conscience, compassion, sympathy… of a respect for life, that thing we all cherish so much.”

He hit out at West Ham bosses after Zouma was allowed to play against Watford on Tuesday evening.

Chris continued: “Yet tonight some humans decided that it was more important to allow a man, who kicks defenceless fragile animals, the opportunity to kick a ball for entertainment.

“Worse they granted him an acquittal from the responsibility that should surely accompany a sportsman. They gave him a pedestal to proclaim his pathetic apology. But they didn’t ‘lose the dressing room’ tonight, they lost the crowd.

“Us, who will not tolerate cruelty, will not be distracted by the glamour and celebrity of football, but who will necessarily pursue justice and right this wrong.

“This was not a beautiful game, this was an ugly disgrace and whilst he has had his night on the pitch, I hope he has his day in court.”

In an earlier tweet, Chris called for West Ham officials to take decisive action against Zouma.

He penned: “So @WestHam @davidgold @karren_brady & @premierleague you have failed a nation of animal lovers and shamed a great footballing nation to boot.”

Police have launched an investigation into Premier League star Zouma after he was caught kicking a cat and laughing.

The West Ham player issued an apology and admitted he “deeply regrets” his actions.

The apology comes as his club side issued their own statement, in which they “unreservedly condemned” the defender’s actions.

When asked before kick-off if the video played any influence on his decision to start Zouma against Watford, West Ham manager David Moyes addressed the incident.

He told BT Sport: “No, because he is one of our better players.

“But it is certainly ongoing and the club are dealing with it, so that is a separate matter.”
