Prince Harry has revealed that he and wife Meghan Markle met up in a supermarket during the first time Meghan went to stay with her future husband.

The Duke of Sussex, 36, explained how he and his now-wife Meghan, 39, pretended they didn’t know each other to avoid attention.

Harry opened up on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast on the couple’s efforts to not be recognised on the date.

Soon-to-be dad-of-two Harry said: “The first time Meghan and I met up for her to come and stay with me, we met up in a supermarket in London, pretending we didn't know each other, texting each other from the other side of the aisles.”

The Duke added: “There's people looking at me, giving me all these weird looks, and coming up to me and saying 'hi’.

“I texted her saying ‘is this the right one’, and she said ‘no you want parchment paper’, and ‘I’m like where's the parchment paper?!’

“I had baseball cap on, looking down at the floor, trying to stay incognito. It's amazing how much chewing gum you see, it's a mess!”

Harry and Meghan are reported to have started dating in October 2016.

The couple then announced their engagement in November 2017, before marrying in May 2018.

Last year, the couple decided to step away from their roles as senior members of the Royal Family and move to the US.

During the podcast, Harry admitted he felt “more free” living in Los Angeles, US, with Meghan and his son.

He revealed: “Living here now I can actually lift my head and actually I feel different, my shoulders have dropped, so has hers, you can walk around feeling a little bit more free.

“I can take Archie on the back of my bicycle. I never had the chance to do that.”

Meghan gave a rare insight into the upcoming birth of their second child in her first TV appearance following her Oprah Winfrey interview.

Speaking in a pre-recoded mess for the Vax Live event, she said: “My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter.

“It’s a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world. When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and the support to lead us forward.”
