Piers Morgan has landed himself in hot water once again after comparing tennis player Naomi Osaka to Meghan Markle.

The dad-of-four, who showed off his swimming pool at his Sussex mansion, took aim at Naomi, 23, for her decision to not take part in any interviews during her time in the French open.

Explaining her decision, the world number two star said she has been suffering with depression since the US open in 2018. Following increased attention, she subsequently said she was pulling out of the tournament.

Piers, 56, lashed out at Naomi and said: "Narcissistic Naomi's cynical exploitation of mental health to silence the media is right from the Meghan & Harry playbook of wanting their press cake and eating it."

But Piers' comments did not go down well and Twitter users took to the social media platform to slam the outspoken star for his criticism of Naomi and for comparing her to Meghan, 39.

One person wrote: "Now you've got Naomi Osaka rent free in your head alongside Meghan and Harry! Still, you have got plenty of space I guess."

A second penned: "Piers, stop that please. Criticism on Naomi Osaka and Meghan Markle. Just stop it, please. Just stop."

While a third added: "Hmmm yeah but he especially likes vulnerable women he can bully and who can't or don't respond. Meghan, Naomi, who knows what others."

As well as comparing her to the Duchess of Sussex, Piers continued his tirade against the sports star and tweeted: "What journalist will dare criticise Naomi Osaka ever again?

"She's got what she wanted – no more criticism, only praise. Meanwhile all her fellow tennis professionals will continue to fulfil their contractual obligations to media & get criticism when deserved. This seems fair?"

He also shared his views in more detail in his Daily Mail column and called her "an arrogant spoiled brat whose fame and fortune appears to have inflated her ego to gigantic proportions."

Piers, who recently celebrated his dad's 80th birthday, was also slammed by Good Morning Britain's Adil Ray as they discussed Naomi's situation.

Speaking about the news, Adil, 47, said: "The debate has come once again [because of] our attitude to mental health, and I just find it despicable how some people can just trash somebody when they say they have mental health issues."
