Oti Mabuse talks awkward moment husband rejected HER gift from Strictly dance partner

Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse, 29, tied the knot with her spouse Marius Iepure, 37, in 2012. The dancer has said her husband, who is also a dancer, doesn’t mind her dancing with male celebrities, but admitted he warns her dance partners before they get close on the dancefloor.

Recalling one particular moment, Oti said her spouse had rejected her flowers giffted from her 2018 partner Graeme Swann.

She said: “I remember when he met Graeme, and Graeme is one of my best friends now, but he knew nothing about me.

“He came with a big bouquet of flowers and said, ‘Oti, I am so excited for our journey.’

“Out of nowhere my husband came in, took the whole bouquet out and said, ‘She’s allergic to flowers’.

“It works for him, but I never got flowers again!”

The dancer went on to say she finds it “sexy” that her husband jokingly threatens her dance partners.

Speaking on Loose Women, she explained: “He gives them the firm handshake.

“It’s sexy, when you are standing there and your man is threatening your dance partner. I love it, I’m like, ‘That’s my man’.”

Oti, who joined the BBC show in 2015, triumphed on the show for the first time last year with former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher.

The pair became firm favourites with viewers in week one, following their energetic Samba routine.

The dancing duo continued to impress the judges with their efforts and won the Glitterball trophy in an intense final against pairs Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden and Emma Barton and Anton du Beke.

One of the most talked about moments on the series was Oti and Kelvin’s racy Rumba routine to Ain’t No Sunshine.

Oti’s sister and Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse jokingly said at the time: “Hold on Kelvin that’s my sister, stop it.”

Judge Craig Revel Horwood also jokingly branded the routine “filth”.

Oti laughed off claims that the pair appeared a little too close and revealed her spouse had in fact encouraged them to get up close.

She told The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine: “Because he’s a dancer, he fully understands what a Rumba is.

“He told me that you have to make it look like a Rumba otherwise you’re just two friends on the floor and what’s the point?”

Tonight the pair will appear on The Graham Norton show via video call.

Guests include Killing Eve star Sandra Oh, singer Niall Horan and comedian Rob Beckett.

The Graham Norton Show continues tonight at 10.40pm on BBC One.
