Orlando Bloom has revealed he was completely celibate for six months before he met his now pregnant fiancée Katy Perry.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 43 describes his state of mind as "not happy" in an interview with the Sunday Times, which led to him taking the surprising step, after following the advice of a friend.
He revealed that his friend told him: "If you want to be serious about a relationship, go celibate for a few months and figure it out."
And Orlando shared of the advice: "It takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, 'Who am I going to meet?'"
"I was suddenly like, 'Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends.'"
At first, the actor, who starred in the the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, was going to abstain from sex for a much shorter period of time, but he started to see the benefits which encouraged him to keep going.
"[I] was going to do three months,' he recalls, but admits: "I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself."
The British actor also revealed that he didn't masturbate or indulge in porn during the six months, labeling the latter as "super disruptive to your sex life, to your libido."
"Completely nothing. It was insane," he said.
But he also said that he didn't advise doing what he did, expressing: "I don’t think it’s healthy. I don’t think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there."
However, the experience definitely had a positive effect on him, as it put him in the right frame of mind for when he met singer Katy, 35.
The couple met at a Golden Globes after-party in January of 2016, and Orlando, who was previously married to model Miranda Kerr, is totally enamoured with the Teenage Dream songstress.
Katy has also been married before, to British comedian and actor Russell Brand.
"She’s very surprising," Bloom said of Katy. "She’s witty and smart and intelligent. She’s charismatic, but she’s direct too, and this dynamic was intriguing to me."
Katy and Orlando are expecting their first child together this summer. Orlando already has a nine-year-old son with ex-wife Miranda.
The couple were supposed to get married next month but have put their nuptials on hold due to the new baby.
